Terms of use

PremiumTally is a free data reference published by Inventum, an Australian-registered company. These terms are deliberately short and say what they mean. Using the site means accepting them.

No warranty of accuracy, despite the care taken

A great deal of effort goes into being right. Figures are computed from archived official documents, hashed against drift, checked against pinned fixtures, and reconciled against the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ own published percent changes before the site is allowed to build. The methodology page documents all of it, including the defects we found in the sources.

None of that is a warranty. The site is provided as it stands, without any guarantee that a figure is accurate, complete, current or fit for any purpose. Source documents contain errors, parsers can misread a layout, and a regulator can revise a publication without notice. To the fullest extent the law allows, Inventum accepts no liability for any loss arising from reliance on anything here. If a figure matters to you, read the linked source document; every page links it for exactly that reason.

The figures are historical published records

Premium figures on this site are sample rates that insurers filed with a state regulator for a hypothetical driver the regulator defined. They are not quotes, not offers, and not what any individual will pay. Nobody can buy a policy at a figure shown here, and no insurer is bound by one.

They are also records of a moment. Every premium page states when its rates took effect, or states plainly that the source published no date. Some of those dates are years old, because that is when the regulator last published. Rates change continuously, statutory minimums change by legislation, and a figure that was accurate when published may since have been superseded. Nothing here is represented as the current market price of anything.

This is not advice

PremiumTally publishes general information. It is not insurance, financial or legal advice and is not a substitute for any of them. It does not take your circumstances into account, because it has no way of knowing them.

Coverage requirements change, and the consequences of getting them wrong fall on you rather than on us. Before acting on anything here, verify it with your state insurance department, with the statute we cite and link, or with a licensed adviser in your state.

No affiliation with anyone

PremiumTally is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or acting on behalf of any insurance regulator, government agency, motor-vehicle agency, industry body or insurance company. No content here is official, and nothing on this site should be read as carrying governmental authority.

The site names no insurer, sells nothing, and holds no commercial relationship with any party in this industry. Its only revenue is display advertising, which has no bearing on what is published.

Quoting and embedding are welcome

Journalists, researchers, students and anyone else are welcome to quote figures, cite pages and embed the tables and charts published here. That is what the site is for.

The condition is attribution: name PremiumTally as the source of the computation, name the regulator that published the underlying data, and include a link back to the page you took it from. Embed code offered on the site carries a nofollow link by design and should be used as provided. Please do not present a figure as current without carrying its effective date, and please do not describe anything here as an average cost of car insurance, because that is precisely what it is not.

Bulk copying of the site, systematic scraping that degrades service for readers, and republishing the pages wholesale as a substitute for the site are not permitted.

The source documents belong to their publishers

The underlying regulator publications, statutes and federal data belong to the bodies that published them, and their own terms govern them. What this site adds is the computation, the structure and the writing around it. Individual facts, including any dollar figure, are not owned by anyone.

Where a publisher restricts reuse of its document we honour that restriction rather than work around it. One regulator’s guide may be reproduced only in its entirety, so no part of it appears here, and the report most often quoted as the national average is cited in words on a single page and used as a data source nowhere.

Changes to these terms

These terms may change as the site changes, and the current version is always the one on this page. Continued use after a change means accepting the revised terms. Questions go to support@inventum.com.au.
